This week I worked on setting up a piece of furniture for my creative space (more about that in an upcoming post). It's a piece that we got from a friend of a friend many years ago. It was going to be put to the curb and we rescued it. It's probably one of my favorites. We have many pieces in our home that we picked up curbside and gave new life to. So, in its former life, this one was an Entertainment Center (I think there will be many of those at the curb or second hand shops). We removed the top set of doors and cut back the shelf to open things up. The cast iron scrolls add a pretty detail to the corners. The bottom set of doors had these dated raised panels, so we removed them and replaced them with fabric and painted it in a light sagey green and cream. It's a great piece of furniture by Drexel Heritage that's perfect for my supplies.

Hi first time reading your blog and your makeover is one of the nicest I've seen.....totally transformed not just a coat of paint...may I ask where you got the iron scrolls as I have been after something very similar...I do a little bit of decorative painting and am hoping to open an online shop so I may pop back and interrogate you ;-)...lovely blog x

I've been wondering what will happen to all of the entertainment centers now that our televisions are being replaced by HDTVs that hang on the wall. You've just demonstrated that they can live a beautiful second life.

That is one nice piece of furniture! I love that you took the doors off, shortened the shelves and painted it. I think I will be looking around for an old entertainment center to do like that for the guest bedroom. Thanks for sharing.

Wow Dawn, Casana here. Haven't emailed you in a long time. I received the de'lis knobs that I plan on replacing on my living room coffee table and end tables with. They are so gorgeous. Just need to get proper screws to fit. But I'm sorry I never took time to look at your blogs, especially this one, as I too have a rescued piece of furniture. I think it is from the early 70's. It is a huge clothes armoire with lots of cubbies at the top and two drawers on the bottom. I am trying to redo my office/craft storage area, and the cubbies would be great. So now I know what to do with the top of the piece and it's plastic ornate front doors, but do you have any suggestions for what to do with the plastic drawer fronts. The piece is really nicely done in wood except these front pieces. I still would like to keep them as drawers, as we can never have enough drawers for items, I just don't have any idea of what to do with them. Any suggestions. I plan on painting the piece a yellow white to match the rest of my furniture that I have yet to set up in their. Their is just not enough time when you have horses, and I have to deal with this relentless disease(rsd). To think, I almost put the piece outside and covered the wood with t-111 and used it for a tack closet, while I've been searching for that inexpensive perfect bookcase to put in that room to hold media and so much more. Not that I don't still have a horse tack problem, but this will at least get my office organized. Thanks for the inspiration. How perfect it is. Can't wait to show hubby so he can help with it.
