Living Room Ideas

When Arhaus contacted me to design a living room using their furniture, the timing was perfect! We are in the process of renovating our living room which used to be my work studio. It's a pretty large space so I picked out quite a few pieces that I would love to see in there.

When choosing a media console, I thought the easel was so unique and of course since I'm a painter and this room is where I used to do my work, this piece was so meaningful.

I'm not a rule follower when it comes to decorating. Choosing items that I love and have some meaning or usefulness for our family is what I'm thinking about when decorating. The colors and pieces in this mood board are just the perfect palette for a peaceful room to hang out in. That muted teal is one of my favorites and I love the slate blue tabletops. The room I'm planning is more of a casual family room so I picked items that weren't too formal but I think the round coffee table and end table add the perfect touch of elegance I was looking for.

It was so simple to find something in every category at Arhaus. Their products are just my style!

Hydrangea tip

These gorgeous hydrangeas have lasted 10 days so far! A great tip: dip the stems in alum (found in the spice aisle) before placing in water. I also did this each time I gave them a fresh cut every few days. Works for me! Shown in one of our popular decorative planter boxes. ‪#‎myhydrangeahome

What's for breakfast...

What's for breakfast...toasted Ezekiel bread brushed with lemon olive oil, topped with part skim ricotta, avocado tossed in fresh lemon, salt, pepper, fresh herbs and a drizzle of lemon olive oil on top. Try it!

Rustic Floral Centerpiece DIY


This floral piece may look like it took a lot of time but no, it couldn't be easier! 

Ingredients: 
4 mason jars
1 rustic planter box (find HERE)
1 small bunch of lemon leaf
1 small bunch of seeded eucalyptus
6 mini green hydrangeas
4 stems of pink alstroemerias
6 stems of purple asters

1. Fill jars with water and floral preservative.
2. Strip leaves from lower stems that will be under water. 
3. Trim stems under water. 
4. I like to start with the greens. 
5. Add the mini hydrangeas. 
6. Add the alstroemerias.
7. Add the asters.

Home for Christmas tour...

Ready for tons of Christmas inspiration? I'm talking DIY projects, home and garden tours! This year's hottest blog party is hosted by Hometalk.com and Countryliving.com. I have one room to share today. Hopefully you will get some ideas from my dining room tour which is the only room I have decorated for Christmas so far. I'm pretty busy working on orders in the studio at this time of year.




The centerpiece on our farmhouse table is very natural and simple. I tied some honeysuckle vine into a wreath and placed it on an old silver platter. Tuck in some greens (I used preserved eucalyptus). I placed a burlap candle in the center and filled the space with pinecones, dried pomegranates and dried artichokes. Simple, natural and rustic.  I've put together more centerpiece ideas using rustic planters and trays HERE.





My favorite addition to the dining room is the chair I just made over in Provence. It was a curbside find and I wanted it specifically for a vignette piece to add a pop of color to our dining room. Here I wrapped an old dictionary in "birch" wrapping paper topped with a basket of collected wine corks. Did we drink all of that wine? 






 The corner tree is done pretty natural this year with grapevine, crystal branches and cotton stems. It's topped with a silver glittered snowflake which now has the perfect vintage patina. Our distressed tray is ready to serve wine and a few accessories make it festive. My favorite vintage seltzer bottle gets a green velvet bow and some old silver is simply filled with some preserved greens and hydrangea.




This little table is always good for a little vignette. I painted this rustic tree on some framed boards, and added some preserved greens and birch twigs to an old cast iron urn.  A preserved Christmas floral adds a pop of red and another birch wrapped book adds a little height. I like to use battery tea lights around twigs and greens.
